5 Reasons to book an engagement session

Congratulations, you're engaged! So you're planning your wedding day and your thoughts turn to photography. Creating something to remember your engagement by is a great way of celebrating this joyful life event but it also brings some other great benefits. Here's my five reasons why I think booking an engagement session is a good idea.

  1. Get to know each other

Having a pre-wedding shoot is a great way of getting to know each other. Of course we will have plenty of time to catch up ahead of your wedding day but meeting up in a casual setting with no time pressure and chatting all things life is a great way of getting to know one another.

  2. Get comfortable in front of the camera

As I write about in my blog about being in front of the camera, ALL of my clients say they don't like having their photograph taken. My testimonies always refer back to this saying how at ease I make people feel. So let's have a practise run with no pressures or judgement and let's walk, talk and make some beautiful photographs together.

  3. Explore somewhere special

I do believe that there is no other country in the world like Scotland. Wedding venues in Scotland are generally all in stunning places themselves but imagine having the opportunity to head somewhere else and make use of a different backdrop for your love story. Forests, mountains, lochs and glens or cityscapes and bars. Whatever floats your boat and represents you, we can create some lasting images in your favoured setting. If you're at a loss of where to go, I spend most of my free time hiking, biking and exploring nature so I'm always happy to suggest locations if you don't have somewhere in mind.

  4. Personalised wedding stationery & website

Once your gallery has been received and you're relived the memories of that evening on the beach or afternoon stroll in the woods you can think about how you may use your photographs. With my editorial background, I always have print in mind and so standalone prints are always a good starting point but with the digital files the options are endless for creating your own unique wedding stationery or filling your own website.

  1. They're fun!

Having a couples shoot ahead of the wedding day is a great time to just have fun, let loose, not worry about anything else and just enjoy the view. It's also an opportunity to express your style outwith the wedding day. Pick your favourite dress, hat, shoes etc. I approach it as I would catching up with friends on a walk in the woods or stroll along the beach. No pressure, judgement and an opportunity to have a laugh. Just as a warning, I am a massive nature nerd and so I can't promise that I won't be pointing out the interesting birds, trees, bees, butterflies, flowers etc along the way. And yes dogs and children welcome....

So there you have it, my five reasons why I think engagement photo sessions are a great idea. Get in touch if you'd like to know more and have a chat about arranging one for yourself.
