Whenever I get an enquiry for a wedding at Netherbyres House I get very excited. I personally think it is one of the most unique and special venues in Scotland. I have had the privilege of shooting here many times. It is perfect for those couples who want to do things their own way and celebrate in style. Sarah & Mike (the owners of Netherbyres) have meticulously restored this residence with the most brilliant eye for design and detail. Every room is furnished and finished to such a high standard and it makes the perfect place for a whole weekend of wedding celebrations. It is of course a photographers dream, with so many unique spaces both indoors and outdoors for photographs. The grand hall is just fantastic for both an indoor ceremony and your wedding breakfast. The lawn and Bojangles bar make for a brilliant drinks reception. The walled garden and grounds make for some dreamy couples portraits locations too. This makes it the most fitting venue for those looking for laidback, natrual documentary style of wedding photography. Add to all of this, Sarah & Mike are just the loveliest people to work with. They will be with you every step of the wedding planning process and be there on the day to ensure you have the best time when the big day arrives. This makes it such a personal and relaxed experience making for a very memorable occasion.
I got in touch with Sarah to ask all about Netherbyres House and here's what she had to say about weddings at this brilliant wedding venue.
1. Where is your wedding venue and what is the setting?
Netherbyres House is a Victorian Mansion located in the outskirts of Eyemouth in the
Scottish Borders. The house sits within the tranquil Netherbyres estate, surrounded
by 75 acres of forest and fields, handily located less than a 10 minute walk from the
restaurants, pubs and accommodation in Eyemouth.

2. How would you describe your wedding venue?
Bold, quirky and fun. We’ve lovingly refurbished the traditional building with a twist -
the colourful and modern interiors provide a real juxtaposition with the many original
features in the house. We have nine ensuite guest bedrooms so can accommodate
up to 20 staying guests, and we offer the option of 1, 2 and 3 night stays.
What is the history of the wedding venue?
The house was built in 1835 and was owned by various families until 1991 when it
was given to charity by Colonel Furness (who still owns the wider Netherbyres
Estate) and converted into a home for retired gardeners. We bought it from the
charity in 2018 and spent two years refurbishing it into a wedding venue, before
opening late in 2020. We used the house’s gardening history as inspiration for much
of the interior design.

4. Who's in the team?
The house is owned and run by us, Sarah & Mike, and we’re there every step of the way
from responding to your wedding enquiry, right through to helping you make your
entrance at just the right moment and making drinks at the bar on your wedding day.
We then have LeeAnne who works with us at every wedding, along with a very small
team of experienced events staff who we call on for larger weddings. So you always
know you’re going to get quality service (and expertly made cocktails!) at
Netherbyres.
5. Venue Capacity?
We specialise in smaller weddings of 70 or less day guests. However we can
accommodate 100+ in the evening, or all day with a tent or marquee in the garden.
6. What is unique about your wedding venue?
Most of our couples book Netherbyres because of our bold and quirky interiors,
which makes us stand out from a lot of the more traditional venues in Scotland. A big
bonus with the interiors is that we’ve done a lot of the hard work for you and the
house needs very little adding to it, so minimal decorations and flowers are required,
a bonus to the budget! But it’s also our more modern and flexible approach to
weddings that makes us unique. We don’t have set packages and very few rules, we
love it when our couples want to do things a little differently and not follow traditions.

7. Locations for photographs both at venue and/or nearby?
There are loads of great spots all over the estate for photos, which all come into their
own at different times of year depending on what’s in season. We also have access
to an incredible elliptical walled garden for couples photos, which is in full bloom from
Spring through to the end of Summer. Eyemouth beach is a short walk or drive
away, so we’ve had a few couples pop down there at golden hour. And of course the
colourful backdrops throughout the house are a photographer’s dream.
8. Who is this venue for and what is your dream client?
We love the mix of clients we attract to Netherbyres, but we generally find our
couples are fun, relaxed and creative people who aren’t interested in a ‘cookie cutter’
wedding, but want to use Netherbyres as their colourful canvas with which to bring in
their own personality and ideas. So whether they are dreaming of an elegant and
timeless Scottish Manor House wedding, a bold & bright house party or a casual
BBQ in the garden, Netherbyres can be the perfect backdrop to their wedding day.

9. Anything else you'd like to highlight?
It’s important to us to make sure we dedicate enough time and energy to every
wedding, so we only do 20 a year and only ever one per week. And as we’re
exclusive use, the place is all yours all weekend - so you don’t run the risk of running
into other guests.

As you can tell, I LOVE to work at Netherbyres. If you feel like my laidback documentary style of photography is up your street then get in touch to see if I am available for your wedding date
